There are three types of residence permits: co-extensive; residence; and assured income. i. Co-extensive: These are issued for spouses and children of the principal permit holder. The permits issued under this arrangement will expire at the same time as the permit for the principal permit-holder. Co-extensive permits will be issued only to family members whose names are included in the permit holder’s application for study/ research/work/ ii. Residence: These are issued to other family members of a principal permit holder based on the need to bring them in. Applications for the two permits mentioned above must be submitted with the following documents: · proof of relationship; · police clearance certificate; · medical reports; · proof of financial support; and · health insurance. iii. Assured Income: Applicants for resident permit on assured income must fulfill the following criteria: · The principal applicant must be at least 45 years of age and carry health insurance; · The principal applicant should have an assured income and should not seek employment in the Fiji Islands; · Upon approval of the application, the principal applicant must deposit a sum of F$100,000 in a local personal bank account ; · If the principal applicant has purchased a property in the Fiji Islands, the requirement for the sum of F$100,000 may be waived subject to documentary proof of the purchase and property value; · An additional F$30,000.00 for a family of two (2) or F$40,000.00 for a family of up to five (5) members must be deposited annually in the local personal bank account; and · For any repatriation of funds out of the country, a permit holder must first obtain clearance from the Department of Immigration before applying to the Reserve Bank of Fiji.
